Ngorongoro Crater Lodge
Ngorongoro Crater Lodge is located in northern Tanzania, on the edge of the world-famous Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The scenic views of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area surrounding the lodge make it one of the most unique luxury lodges in Tanzania.
Ngorongoro Crater Lodge sits within the dramatic landscape of the Rift Valley, which stretches toward the famous endless plains of Serengeti National Park. The lodge features some of the most distinctive safari lodge architecture in Africa and is located on the southwestern rim of Ngorongoro Crater, overlooking this remarkable natural wonder.
Because of its high-altitude location, Ngorongoro Crater Lodge experiences particularly cold evenings, especially during the winter period from June to July. The elevated position also provides spectacular views across the crater and surrounding highlands.
The Ngorongoro Crater Lodge rooms are designed in a colonial style, featuring gold, silver and ruby colours beneath grass-thatched roofs with locally made ceilings. Each room has a great view of the awesome Ngorongoro Crater, while the cottages have living rooms and viewing decks overlooking the crater.
The lodge is approximately 4 hours’ drive from the tourist city of Arusha, following a good tarmac road through Karatu and the Lake Manyara area.
Current status: &Beyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge is currently closed for a significant refurbishment. According to the lodge’s official website, the property is being extensively rebuilt and is expected to reopen in 2027.
