Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge

Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge is located on the eastern side of the Ngorongoro Crater. Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge offers unique and comfortable accommodation to its guests. It is located at the highest cliff of the crater rim, making it one of the best viewing points of the crater across the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

The lodge is found just a few kilometers from the crater entrance road. The road connecting to the lodge is very good and not bumpy, making guests feel comfortable driving to the crater at any time of the year without fear of slippery or challenging roads.

Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge has 92 rooms constructed in a local African style, with conservation taken as a key consideration during planning. The lodge has a large swimming pool and many extra activities for children, making it suitable for families with children. The lodge has single rooms, double rooms, and twin rooms, with each room having queen-size beds, an en-suite bathroom, shower, and enclosed glass-fronted solarium.

With its high altitude, Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge is mostly cold, especially at night. The lodge management provides hot water bottles in the beds as a central heat point. The main lodge area is designed in a unique local African style and is circular in nature.

The windows are split at different levels to give guests breathtaking views over the Ngorongoro Crater. The lodge has a central lobby lounge with a curio shop that leads to the swimming pool area, restaurant, bar, and conference facilities.

Activities at Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge

Game Viewing

Sopa Lodge gives guests great chances for all-day game drives in the crater. They provide packed lunch boxes for guests to take with them as they enjoy great views of animals such as rare black rhinos, elephants, wildebeest, buffaloes, and many more. Birds include secretary birds, ostriches, kori bustards, starlings, open-bill storks, and many others.

Cultural Tours

It offers guests cultural experiences that include visiting the local Maasai mayatas in the conservation area. Sometimes, they invite local people to come and perform at the lodge in the evening when guests have finished dinner and are relaxing and memorizing their experience.

Visit Archaeological Sites

The lodge is located in the center of the conservation area, giving guests a great opportunity to reach the famous Olduvai Gorge, where the remains of early man were discovered by Dr. Leakey. Guests can visit the museum and other nearby sites before returning to the lodge for dinner.

Hiking

Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge has well-trained guides who lead nature walks in the conservation area. Hiking is mostly done by fit and energetic guests during their free evenings as they want to have a close view and feel for nature during their time in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

Mountain Biking

Ngorongoro Sopa Lodge has a series of mountain bikes that guests can hire for a short or long guided ride. There are specific routes for the rides under the guidance of local guides.
