5 Days Tanzania Wildebeest Calving safari is an experience with the wildebeest migration during the calving season in Ndutu area and also a safari in Serengeti national park where you will search for wildlife species like the big 5.

You will also engage in various game drives during your 5 days safari in Tanzania as you explore Serengeti national park and Ngorongoro crater. You will enjoy seeing different predators like big cats such as lions, leopards, cheetahs which wait to prey on the unknowing wildebeests in the savannah plains.

Serengeti national park has over 4000 lions and is another destination to witness the wildebeest migration which involves movement of over 2 million wildebeests annually in search of greener pastures.

You will begin the 5 days wildebeest calving safari from Arusha where your guide will pick you up before you explore Ngorongoro conservation area, Ndutu area and Serengeti national park and after the safari experience, return to Arusha.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1; pick up and drive to Ngorongoro conservation area

Your guide will pick you up from Kilimanjaro international airport or your hotel in Arusha and welcome you for your 5 days wildebeest calving safari. After this, you will have a short briefing about your safari and then your guide will drive you to your 1st wildlife viewing destination on the itinerary. You will visit the Ngorongoro crater which is the world’s largest inactive caldera in Tanzania. You will enjoy seeing a variety of wildlife species after descending 600 meters into the crater for a game viewing experience.

During your 5 days Tanzania safari in the Ngorongoro crater, you will see other wildlife species such as lions, leopards, buffalos, rhinos, elephants, wildebeests, zebras, antelopes, kudu, cheetahs, hyenas, elands, impalas among others. You will also enjoy seeing attractions such as Lake Magadi where you will see flamingos and many other bird species along the lake shores. Your guide will drive you back to your lodge after the game drive for dinner and overnight.

Day 2; drive to Ndutu area

After breakfast at your lodge, your guide will drive you to the Ndutu area which is in the north western part of Ngorongoro. This area is known for the calving season during the wildebeest migration when over 8000 calves are born daily around the Ndutu area during the months of January, February (peak calving season) and early March. Predators such as lions, leopards, cheetahs among others can also be seen during this time.

You will have lunch after checking in at your lodge as you prepare to engage in a game drive to explore the grassy plains of Ndutu. You will see other wildlife species such as elephants, giraffes, antelopes, hyenas among others during your game drive around the Ndutu area which can be visited at any time of the year. After your game drive, your guide will drive you back to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3; drive to Serengeti national park

On the 3rd day of your 5 days wildebeest calving safari, you will start your day with breakfast at your lodge as you prepare to transfer to Serengeti national park where you will visit the central area also known as the Seronera area which is home to numerous wildlife species such as lion prides, elephants, buffalos, rhinos, cheetahs, hippos, giraffes, impalas, elands, leopards, antelopes, gazelles, waterbucks among others. You will check in and have lunch at your lodge in Serengeti national park before your afternoon game drive.

During your afternoon game drive in Serengeti national park, you will see attractions such as the kopjes, the Seronera valley, the hippo pool as well as kopjes like the Simba kopjes where you will see lions. After your game drive in the national park, your guide will drive you back to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4; full day in Serengeti national park

Breakfast will be served at your lodge in Serengeti national park as you prepare to spend the rest of the day in the open savannah and dotted grasslands of the national park searching for wildlife species like the big 5 which includes lions, leopards, rhinos, buffalos and elephants. You will also see other wildlife species in the national park such as giraffes, elands, antelopes, rhinos, impalas, gazelles, waterbucks, hyenas, hippos and many others.

You will engage in both morning and afternoon game drives on the 4th day of your safari in Serengeti national park and have a lunch break after your morning game drive. Your guide will drive you around the beautiful savannah of the national park as you enjoy the scenery and look out for more wildlife species. You will return to your lodge after the game drive and have dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 5; drive to Arusha

You will have breakfast at your lodge in Serengeti national park on the last day of your safari as you prepare for a transfer back to Arusha where your guide will drop you off. You will have an en route game drive in Serengeti national park on the way to Arusha and your guide will drop you off at the airport or your hotel in Arusha which will bring your 5 days wildebeest calving safari to an end.
