Ngorongoro Crater weather is generally balancing through the year with warm temperatures during day time and cold temperatures during night time. Ngorongoro Conservation Area located in the Northern part of Tourist city Arusha, Southern part of Serengeti bordering Lake Manyara and Tarangire national park. Ngorongoro Crater weather is the same like the country weather of Tanzania receiving two rainy seasons that is April to May and November. The first rainy season is long and the amount of rainfall is much compared to the second rainy season which is short with little rains.
The dry seasons are also two with the first dry season being long from June to October while the second one is brief that starts from December to March but its accompanied with some drizzles always compared to the first one. Its during the second dry season that the wildebeest migrate from Serengeti to Northern Ngorongoro conservation Area in Ndutu sector for calving season.
Ngorongoro Crater weather allows you to have both light and warm clothes parked for your trip. The light clothes are worn during day always after the early morning game drive at the crater rim which is mostly cold, they are put at leisure time at the camp or during afternoon game drives. While the warm clothes are more needed during morning game drives and at night time. Ngorongoro crater conservation Area Temperatures varies depending on the altitude you are, the crater rim of Ngorongoro is located at 2,300 meters above sea level which is an equivalent to 7,500 feet. The average temperatures is about 16 degrees Celsius during dry season and at day time but drops to 13 degrees Celsius during night. In rainy season the average Temperatures are 10 degrees Celsius though sometimes it can drop below that especially at night.
When one descends to the Ngorongoro Crater the altitude is lower around 5,600 feet (1,700 meters) and this makes it more warner than any other place during day time by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius. The floor of the crater habits the crater lake called Lake Magadi but much more different from Lake Magadi of Kenya, occupied by 1000’s of flamingos. Other lakes found at the bottom of Ngorongoro crater is lake Embagai located on the North-East of lake Magadi.
Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area altitude changes as one goes to the West, it exceeds 9,800 feet (3,000 meters) above sea level making it the coldest point at the conservation, covered with forest due to its change of Climate. In terms of rainfall, Ngorongoro crater receives about 1,000 ml of rain per year, it receives the highest amount of rainfall compared to all its neighbouring protected parks like Serengeti, Tarangire and others. The long rainy season starts from March to May with the climax being at April, its funny that rainy moths are warmer at day time than the dry months. The dry spell starts immediately after the rains in June and goes up to October when the small rains start dropping as the short rains start in November.
Ngorongoro Crater weather is also accompanied by great African sunshine with is distributed thought the year. Observing the sun rise and sun set of African sun gives you live experience during your stay at Ngorongoro. Most guests want to stay at lodges or camps which give them chance to see the sun set while in Africa. The sun is relatively strong during rainy season than even dry season and this requires some protecting gears like hats, glasses and other equipment.
